The book “Leading a Board” by INSEAD Professor Shekshnia was presented at the event by WOB Turkey

Women on Board Association Turkey (WOB Turkey), which was established to bring more women on Boards in Turkey, organized a book launch for its Mentors to introduce Stanislav Shekshnia’s new book ‘Leading a Board’. Hande Yaşargil, WOB Turkey President and INSEAD Business School Executive Coach, is also the author of the Turkey chapter of the book.

The book launch was hosted by WOB Turkey Advisory Board President, Fiba Group Chair Murat Özyeğin and WOB Turkey President, INSEAD Business School Executive Coach Hande Yaşargil in the presence of senior Chairs and Shareholders of leading Turkish companies at the Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus. Özyeğin, in his opening speech, pointed out the significant efforts of WOB Turkey Mentors in the functioning of the Boards in terms of corporate governance and diversity principles and stated that the aim of the association is to bring this awareness to all institutions in our society. In the opening speech of the event, the President of the Advisory Board of WOB Turkey, Murat Özyeğin, said, "Our shared responsibility is to prepare Turkey's economy and society for a stronger future."

Hande Yasargil, President of WOB Turkey and Executive Coach of INSEAD Business School, who also authored the Turkey chapter of the book, said she was proud to author such a timeless guide for chairs and thanked Stanislav Shekshnia for publishing this esteemed book and sharing his helpful recommendations with the valuable audience.

Stanislav Shekshnia explained that in his research-based book, he goes into detail about the most powerful but least known person in the organization. Shekshnia conveyed the job description of the Chairs, their relationships with the CEO and shareholders, and the contributions they make to the Board when they use their leadership role properly: ‘Because the work of the chair takes place behind closed doors, little is known about this person who chairs the most powerful board in a company. To shed light on the work of chief executives in different European countries, we conducted a large-scale research project with the support of the INSEAD Corporate Governance Center and Ward Howell Talent Equity Institute.’

Books signed by Stanislav Shekshnia were distributed to the guests. After the half-day event, Shekhnia gave a special interview to Fast Company, one of the leading business magazines in Turkey.

About Women on Board Turkey Association:

The main objective of  Women on Board Association Turkey (WOB Turkey), which was established  in January 2017, is to promote social development by increasing the representation of women on boards.

The origin of our association is the Cross-Company Mentoring Program for More Women on Boards, the first formation serving this purpose, founded in 2012 by Hande Yaşargil, Mentor Consulting Executive Partner and Burçak Güven, Journalist and Clinical Psychologist.

The Women on Board Program was created to expand the pool of women who are “ready” to play their role in increasing the number of women on boards. It is first and only certificate program in Turkey accredited by prestigious academic institutions. One of the main elements of the program is the Cross- Company Mentoring system, which offers the opportunity to be mentored by the country’s most effective business and opinion leaders. During each 18-month period, our Mentors play a vital role, working with new female Mentees and preparing them for their roles on Boards.

A total of 200 women have been accredited by WOB Turkey to take their Independent Seats on boards over four terms. The fifth term will begin in December 2021.

During the implementation of this unique program, WOB Turkey also works as a platform for communication, collaboration, awareness and information sharing to increase the representation of women on boards.
