The 1st Module of the WOB Turkey Independent Board Membership Certificate Program was held at Özyeğin University.
Organized by WOB Turkey The Women on Board of Directors Program is Turkey's first and only certificate program in the field of Board Membership was held on 26-28 April 2018 at Özyeğin University.
48 senior female executives, who are the third term Mentee of WOB Turkey, participated in the program. Women managers who almost back to school, listened to Selen Kocabaş Prof Dr Deniz Ülke Arıboğan, Prof Dr Ümit Özlale on the economy, leadership and management.
Özyeğin University hosted the Program accredited by Boğaziçi University, Bilgi University, Koç University, Özyeğin University and Argüden Governance Academy. Özyeğin University Rector Prof Dr Esra Gençtürk supported the program with her valuable opening speech.
On the first day of the program, WOB Turkey Board Member, Independent Board Member and Strategic Consultant Selen Kocabaş talked about the institutional outputs and the benefits to the society of increasing women's representation as a leader in business life. At the same time, Kocabaş, one of the third term mentors of the program, emphasized that: "Interaction with the Board Members, talking about the future are important to show our contribution within the organization. Dr H. Sait Ölmez, Director of Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering Data Analytics and Information Technologies Graduate Programs, shared the importance of Big Data Analytics for Boards and institutions in the training program, where the weight of the subject of technology was increased." "A young company that puts data into decision-making mechanisms, can displace you."
Dr Murat Üçer from Koç University delivered a presentation titled "Macro Economy and Turkey and World Economy" and Özyeğin University, Head of the Department of Economics Prof Dr Ümit Özlale illuminated to WOB Turkey Mentees with a presentation entitled "Economy of Turkey, Overview and Prospects".
In the 3-day certificate program, 12 expert trainers, including Hasan Nazikoğlu, Burçak Güven, Doğan Taşkent, Prof Dr Gül Okutan, Dr Emre Soyer, Ertuğrul Belen, Aziz Emre Günel, Prof Dr Deniz Ülke Arıboğan, gave information under different topics from Turkish Commercial Code to Corporate Strategy Management, Personality Structure, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The second module of the Independent Board Membership Certificate Program is planned to be held at Bilgi University on 13-15 September 2018.
WOB Turkey Cross-Company Mentorship and Certificate Programs open doors every two years to new institutions and participants. Next period is planned to start in December 2019.

WOB Turkey was founded by Hande Yaşargil and Burçak Güven in 2012 as the first organization that works to increase diversity and women's representation in executive boards in our country.
On January 16, 2017, we changed our status to an association and expanded our activities, and we started to take important steps towards institutionalization. The origin of our association is the Women on Board of Directors Program which Turkey's first and only certificate program in the field of Board Membership, accredited by respected academic institutions. The program provides women board member candidates opportunity to take mentoring from Turkey's business leaders. During every 18 months, our mentors play an important part by working with new female mentees and helping them prepare for their role on Boards of Directors.
As the Women on Board Association Turkey, we continue to implement this unique program while carrying out our activities of communication, cooperation, awareness and information sharing in order to increase the representation rate of women on boards.
